The Best Wedding Photographers

In the spirit of wedding photography season I thought it would be appropriate to cover some of the greatest wedding photographers in the world. These individuals are highly admired not just for photography but also for devoting time to train others. The photographers below are 5 of the best in the entire nation as rated by Americanphotomag.com and WPJA. They are an inspiration to many including myself so I strongly encourage you to visit their sites and learn from them. These outstanding photographers include:

Ben Chrisman – San Francisco, California

Jasmine star – Los Angeles, California

Heather Waraksa – New York, New York

Del Sol Photography – Riviera Maya, Mexico

Jerry Ghionis – Melbourne, Australia

Ben Chrisman – San Francisco, California

Ben Chrisman- San Francisco, California

Ben has a unique style as a wedding photographer. Where Ben really stands out in wedding photography is his post processing. He possesses a great ability to create and find special frames for his clients. Some have said his style is intimately voyeuristic in nature and I must agree. Another area where he excels is his ability to come up with dramatic compositions by the use of off camera lighting. This is done together with a blend of backgrounds that are under exposed. Thereby enhancing the lighting of the atmosphere in every scene. His postproduction style is dramatic and makes him an exemplary wedding photographer. To create his dramatic and intimate imagery, Ben mixes deep blacks with color temperature which has become his signature so to speak.

Heather Waraksa – New York, New York

Heather is yet another wonderful photographer. Her images leave you wondering whether they are frames snatched from a movie. They are that unreal and I’m confident her clients are always blown away after viewing their wedding images. Everything seems out of this world. Her style can be best described as rogue Hollywood. One of the things that makes her an exceptional photographer and stand out from the crowd is her post production style which has vintage processing methods and contains fashion inspired cross alongside her typical photos that are color popping.

Jasmine star – Los Angeles, California

This photographer is very social and talks openly about her life. This is one of the reasons I follow her closely. Even to strangers, she gives you a feeling of a childhood friend who was brought up next door. Refreshingly natural and candid is the best way to describe her style. Unlike other photographers, Jasmine manages to capture the true emotion in every moment. No one can resist the fact that she has a natural ability to do portraits that are wonderfully amazing. Her post production style is clean, fresh, natural and crisp with color.

Jerry Ghionis – Melbourne, Australia

Jerry is perhaps one of the top wedding photographers in the world. If you see his images once, you will never forget them. He has essentially taken the fashionable wedding and made it his own. No one that I have seen can compete with his ability to take a wedding and make high fashion imagery. This is certainly contributed by his long-standing background in fashion photography. He is the kind of person who comes up with a great thing from literally nothing. His post production style has just the right amount of contrast, color balancing and sharpening. Watch Jerry’s interview below and learn from a master photographer.

Del Sol photography – Riviera Maya, Mexico

Del’s wedding imagery is candid and natural. They are very creative when it comes to trash the dress, engagements and couples sessions. It’s not every day you will find photographers taking brides under water just to take a shot. This is what Del Sol Photography does. Many are envious of their team because of their creativity, technical skills and willingness to push the envelope to create images that are quite unreal. They create truly unique imagery by using unique environments, locations and scenes. Off camera lighting is an integral part of what they do, just like with many other photographers. With that being said they are without a doubt masters of off camera flash. Their post- production style varies according to the type of session they are shooting. For their weddings and engagements post-processing does not seem to be a key component of what makes their images stand out. However, with portraits there are traces of high fashion retouching and smoothing of the skin.

Thinking about getting into wedding photography or getting married soon? Before you jump ship from landscape and nature photography I encourage you to get an inside look at how tough the wedding photography business is.  You may not know it but there are several different forms, photo journalistic wedding photography, high fashion, traditional, fine art and the list goes on. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, it’s grueling and stressful work, which is why I only shoot 10 weddings a year now.  A huge thanks to Jasmine for being a contributor to this blog post.
